I was born in the vibrant city of Cape Town, where my love for art was sparked at an early age, inspired by my mother, who was an art teacher. Following this passion, I studied Fine Arts at the Cape Technikon in 1986 and 1987, laying the groundwork for my creative journey. Although art has always been close to my heart, my professional path initially took a different turn. I began my career in the financial sector as a broker with Old Mutual, and later transitioned into the property industry, joining Seeff Properties in 2005 while living in the charming town of Tulbagh. After 24 fulfilling years in Tulbagh, I made the decision to move to Yzerfontein in April 2023, a coastal town that has become a wellspring of inspiration for my artistic work.
My journey back to painting began in 2012, reigniting a passion that had been tucked away during my corporate years. I’ve since embraced this creative calling wholeheartedly, building a diverse portfolio that reflects my love for nature and the world around me. Wildlife, landscapes, and portraits are central to my work, each piece reflecting my contemporary style and emotional connection to my subjects.
Working primarily with acrylic and oils, I find these mediums perfect for capturing texture and depth with a relaxed, impressionistic flair that speaks to the essence of my subjects.
In 2012 and 2015, I held solo exhibitions in Tulbagh, milestones that affirmed my path as an artist and solidified my place within the local art community. Moving to Yzerfontein in 2023 allowed me to become more actively involved with the Yzer Art Route, and my participation in group exhibitions in 2022 and 2023 has been a rewarding experience. In 2020, I purchased my first property in Yzerfontein, a decision that has deepened my connection to this beautiful region and its artistic community.
These days, my work is expanding to include seascapes and the stunning sunsets unique to Yzerfontein, adding a fresh perspective to my growing collection. I often take my dogs for walks along the beach, capturing photos on my phone that later inspire new paintings. As my portfolio continues to grow, I’m excited to be preparing for an upcoming solo exhibition, a new chapter in my journey filled with passion, creativity, and a profound connection to the natural world.
